New multifamily development mixes multihousing with grocery store

New Tempe apartment development breaks ground and makes history

Denver-based Forum Real Estate Group recently broke ground for a new development called The Local. The Local will feature many unique amenities, the biggest being a Whole Foods Market 365 on the ground floor. Move-ins are predicted to begin in 2019.

This Whole Foods/apartment community merger, located on University Drive and Ash Avenue, joins the downtown Tempe community as a truly one-of-a-kind development. Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell recently said that “Our residents have been asking for a major grocery store in downtown Tempe for more than a decade and Whole Foods Market 365 is a perfect fit for The Local.”

The 365 store is similar to the regular Whole Foods chain but boasts unique features such as less expensive options and a smaller, sleek design.

The nine story apartment community features units of all sizes and intertwines both modern and vintage touches. Other than the Whole Foods store, the community will provide other cutting-edge amenities such as a sound-proof karaoke/entertainment lounge, fitness and yoga studios, a rooftop sky lounge, pools with a jet water table and an indoor/outdoor bar.

According to their website, Forum Real Estate Group “work[s] tirelessly and pioneer[s] fearlessly to deliver the unexpected.” With properties in 17 states, Forum is excited to join the Arizona marketplace with The Local.
